Outcomes of Education Across the Lifespan“

Education promotes the unfolding of personality and enables social, cultural and economic participation. It supports the cohesion of society and is an essential factor in securing prosperity. The mechanisms through which education and lifelong learning influence different areas of life are diverse and in part not yet well researched. Against this background, the central task of the junior research group "Outcomes of Education Across the Lifespan" consists of innovative empirical research on the complex and dynamic processes, by which education impacts on (shorter or longer terms of) the life course. This research should preferably include data from the National Educational Panel (NEPS), possibly in conjunction with other data sources.

Your work environment:

The Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories e. V. (LIfBi) is an independent research and infrastructure facility conducting empirical educational research and associated with the University of Bamberg. LIfBi is responsible for operating the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS). You are working in a team of about 200 employees with academic and infrastructural focus at our location in Bamberg, Germany.

Your tasks:

  • Realisation of research projects in the thematic area "Outcomes of Education Across the Lifespan" based on NEPS data, including:
    • Elaboration of the research agenda and the work plan of the research group
    • Developing and implementing a publication and dissemination strategy for research findings, including high-ranked journals and transfer activities
    • Independent management of the junior research group (training and guidance of research assistants and student assistants, supervision of doctoral projects)
    • Reporting and presentation in committees and working groups of the LIfBi
    • Networking of the junior research group within the institute and with national and international cooperation partners
    • Conceptual input for the NEPS survey programmes
    • Scientific qualification (habilitation, if applicable)

Your profile:

  • Above-average doctorate in a relevant field (e.g. economics, educational science, psychology, sociology), which should not date back more than five years
  • At least two years of research experience as a postdoctoral researcher
  • Relevant publications in international and national peer-reviewed journals
  • International research experience
  • Experience in the acquisition of third-party funds
  • Experience in the analysis of NEPS data (desirable)
  • Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary exchange with existing research groups at LIfBi
  • Excellent English skills
