at the Research Unit Statistical Survey Methods

The Leibniz-Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) is an independent infrastructure facility conducting empirical educational research and associated with the University of Bamberg. LIfBi is responsible for operating the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS). The main task of this long-term project is the provision of representative data on competence development and educational trajectories in Germany.

Your work environment:

You are working in a team of about 200 employees with academic and non-academic work focus at our location in Bamberg. The research unit "Methods of Survey Statistics" is responsible for the conception of sampling plans and evaluates their feasibility and implementation in the longitudinal survey studies of the LIfBi. For this purpose, the department carries out extensive analyses of the data collected in the LIfBi on the basis of established and newly developed methodological approaches. Within the scope of data preparation and data production, the department works closely with other units of the LIfBi.

Your tasks:

  • Development and validation of statistical methods (estimation and test methods) for the evaluation of panel data taking into account the survey and sample design in the case of incomplete data
  • Conceptualizing and monitoring of sampling in the framework of NEPS, in particular the calculation of longitudinal and cross-
    sectional weights for the participating respondents of the different waves and starting cohorts or specific survey subgroups with special analysis potentials, additional calibration at population distributions and forecasting of the panel development in NEPS
  • Relevant research and publication activities in the field of statistical method research
  • Procurement of third-party funds

Your profile:

  • Above-average doctorate in statistics, survey methodology, mathematics, physics, sociology, economics, psychology or a related field
  • Statistical methods and methodological knowledge in survey statistics, in particular MCMC methods, Bayesian methods, sampling, panel analysis and statistical programming
  • R and LaTeX knowledge
  • Very good written and spoken English skills
  • Relevant research and project experience
