The Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories seeks a

Postdoctoral researcher (f/m/d)
in the department “Educational Decisions and Processes, Migration, Returns to Education”

The full-time position will be funded for a maximum period of six years, starting on 1 May 2020. The salary will be based on the German public sector pay scale TV-L E13 or E14, depending on the level of training and knowledge.

The Leibniz Institute for Educational Pathways (LIfBi) is a legally independent infrastructure facility for empirical educational research and an affiliated institute of the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg. LIfBi is responsible in particular for conducting the National Educational Panel (NEPS).

Your work environment:

You will work in a team of about 190 employees with a scientific or non-scientific focus at the Bamberg site. Your position is directly attached to the head of the department “Educational Decisions and Processes, Migration, Returns to Education”.

Your areas of responsibility:
Your tasks include independent research in one of the fields the department is working on ( You participate in further developing the research profile of the department and in planning and applying for externally funded projects. Your will develop ideas for joint publication projects with other researchers and participate in mentoring PhD students. Further academic qualification is desired and supported by us.

Your profile:
  • An above-average doctorate degree in sociology / social sciences (or close to completion)
  • Relevant peer-reviewed publications
  • Interest in longitudinal issues in sociological research on education and enjoying scientific writing
  • Excellent methods skills in quantitative empirical social research and well-versed in using STATA
  • Experiences with NEPS data or other longitudinal data sets
  • Very good English skills and preferably some knowledge of German
  • Commitment, initiative, team spirit and loyalty
