Doctoral Position within the Research Group
“Education in a Digital World” (f/m/d)

The Leibniz-Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) is an independent infrastructure facility conducting empirical educational research and associated with the University of Bamberg. LIfBi is responsible for operating the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS). The main task of this long-term project is the provision of representative data on competence development and educational trajectories in Germany.

Your work environment:

You are working in a team of about 200 employees with academic and non-academic work focus at our location in Bamberg. The team of the research group works closely with the LIfBi Director’s Unit and cooperates with thematically related work areas and research projects at the institute. The thematic focus of the doctoral position is the analysis of issues related to digital media as a means of competence acquisition. This includes research on the potentials of new learning methods in the field of formal, non-formal and informal learning of young adults. It also examines how educational offers can be improved with digital tools.

Your tasks:

  • Participation in the planning and implementation of research projects related to the subject “Education in a Digital World”
  • Elaboration of research results using current methods
  • Independent research for the PhD thesis
  • Presentation of research results in internal, national and international research seminars, workshops and conferences
  • Publication of research results in professional journals

Your profile:

  • Concluded (resp. soon to be concluded) master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. psychology, educational science, empirical educational research, applied computer science, sociology)
  • Interest in pedagogical-psychological issues of educational research, especially related to the field of digital learning environments
  • Methodological knowledge in test construction and in statistical analysis methods (ideally experience with statistical software Stata)
  • Commitment, initiative and enthusiasm
  • Very good English knowledge, independent and team-oriented way of working
